This is a comical study at Christian conflicts (imagine that…conflict within the same religion…huh) as well as a terrific representation of a Southern slight town.
Educational as well - learned some provocative things about the Bible that I never knew - go figure!

A well reviewed film that wasn’t seen the first time around by most people. Quite a few laughs, and quite a few moments to select seriously. Mammoth music (Succor Porch Mary), a terrific cast, and pretty cinematography- this is one movie off the mainstream you’ll absolutely worship.

Gus Van Sant has always been an safe if somewhat eclectic director. Although I have enjoyed his previous efforts, I was somewhat afraid when I heard he was undertaking a film biography of Harvey Milk. A jubilant figure of this importance, I concept, should be handled by someone a limited more mainstream. Like many contented people, I am weary of gay-themed films that come no one beyond a ecstatic audience, and the message I would want to emerge from a film about Harvey Milk should be heard by everyone.

As if reading my mind, Mr. Van Sant has fashioned a film that is accessible to all, while approaching his subject with spirited focus and a singleness of purpose that is at once definitive and topical. A beautiful achievement, MILK manages to obtain its point without ever being preachy or trite, while remaining as good to the facts as any film bio could ever hope to be.
The film opens with snippets of glad history that many young glad people, let alone a straight audience, may be apprehensive to view. During the opening credits, a barrage of vintage film clips remind us that a scant 50 years ago, satisfied men, lesbians and transsexuals were subjected to violence, harassment, physical abuse, arrest and humiliation by the very people that most citizens inspect to for protection; i.e. the police and judicial authorities. The newsreel images of gratified bar raids that start MILK project a surreal yet somehow eerily familiar atmosphere that seems to alternate between the bizarre and the barbaric. Many people today are not aware that, in the 1940’s and 1950’s, suitable here in the USA, delighted people were arrested for simply patronizing a pleased bar (newspaper headline: “Den of Perverts Busted”) . Many of those arrested had their names and employers published in the morning paper (!), and often found themselves unemployed and unemployable, branded with the impress of “deviate”. It is this chilling fact of social injustice that clears the scheme for the film’s swing into a very considerable share of happy history.

Skillfully telling us the record of Milk’s rise as a leader in the Castro Tickled Community of San Francisco, Harvey Milk is seen throughout the film as a living, breathing flesh and blood person. Van Sant adroitly propels Sean Penn through a warts-and-all portrayal of a musty human being with an idealistic twisted and a politician’s savvy. As with any splendid film, it is difficult, if not impossible, to discern which is more impressive - the balance of a perfect cast and lovingly detailed direction weave their plot through a seamless portrait of an primary historical figure, yet we are somberly reminded that many people remember Harvey Milk solely for the “Twinkie” defense of his star-crossed killer. The demolish result is that tickled audiences emerge from seeing this film with a sense of pride and purpose, while straight audiences leave with a better knowledge of who we (overjoyed people) are, what we want, and what we are struggling for. By word of mouth I expected a thrilling cinematic experience; what I got was a surprisingly near-perfect motion report and some of the best acting I’ve ever seen. I heartily recommend MILK to any straight person who wants to earn a acquire on what the last 30 years of contented history were really all about, and any happy person who wants to feel friendly about themselves. MILK is a triumph. Explore it.
Allow me to agree with at least one other reviewer that everyone should leer this, especially those who consider being delighted is so far out of the mainstream that, as my father in law once said, “The Lord allowed AIDS to happen.”
Harvey Milk. A man of whom I know petite. I lived on the other side of the world when he died, in a city in which it was not unique to rush into eunuchs. I’d heard of him since, in reference to gayness, but never associated any importance to him. Then I saw that Sean Penn was playing Milk, so I told my spouse that we need to ogle it.
Milk, it seemed, lived a handsome former lifestyle, working for an insurance company in Original York. According to the script, anyway, in 1970 he met a flame and they headed to the west cruise. Despite local resistance, they region up shop in the Castro district of San Francisco (after “The Haight” had become riddled with crime, homelessness and the like) . Milk then decided it was time to glean politically active.
In this fraction of the film, I view for a while that I was going to suffer from motion sickness. The camera seemed to travel quite mercurial, and carve from the scene they were shooting to a historical scene, and assist. But I adjusted. And Milk lost the first election, then the second, then the third. That, possess it or not, didn’t win too worthy time for the film to catch across, except that Milk’s lover, Scott (played by James Franco) left after he said he couldn’t hold another one. That’s when the action started (!)
I’m not jubilant, and have never been terribly sympathetic to many of the blissful causes. At least I never payed noteworthy attention to ‘em. Yeah, I heard imperfect statements like I quoted above, but I impartial disregarded them. After this film, my spouse felt guilty that she didn’t know powerful about the Milk case. I pointed out that she wasn’t exposed to it distinguished. Even to this day many of the happy “causes” aren’t seen as so mainstream. They’re seen as somewhat fringe. Some alleged “blissful eccentricities” may have added to that exclusion, and I beget the film included that element. Indeed, that’s why Harvey Milk decided to go to Orange County, CA, without his cheerful supporters, and debate Situation Senator Briggs, played by Dennis O’Hare, the proponent of Proposition 6, a happy rights provision to which gays were opposed, on his maintain terms. And it paid off! The proposition was defeated!
Throughout the film, Milk was reciting a testament into his tape recorder, to be played only if he were assasinated. I wish I knew whether Milk really did that or whether it was added to the film for “enact.” Either intention, it was the adhesive that kept the film together.
The historical clips also added to the film’s credibility, especially those of Anita Bryant. After Bryant’s success in some anti-gay initiatives around the country, Milk decided to bring her causes to the attention of the people of California, and that’s where the Proposition 6 movement began.
There’s so mighty I could say about the film. I don’t want to conceal anything of the destroy case, as I’ll give too great away. The acting was definitely Oscar material, especially for Sean Penn. The script and music were award-winning. But the reason I endorse it–especially for those most opposed to overjoyed rights–is that it shows that those rights are no less constitutional or mainstream than the rights of blacks, women, or any other groups which have had to labor hard for the last 230 years!
Whether the film was timed to approach out–no pun intended–after California’s Proposition 8, I don’t know. But it’s well timed in terms of trying to educate people as to why those good should be guaranteed.
Today we have people like Keith Olbermann to editorialize on those who opposed Proposition 8. We can thank God for Harvey Milk, the “first openly blissful” person in politics in the US, for having opened to doors for those contemporay editorials.
It’s also, by the draw, a testament to the cause of political activism in general; most activists accept themselves in a rut deeper than that of Milk and his associates. This film may remind them to persist!
See this gem, and compose certain those challenged by gratified rights eye it. Discuss it with them. Someday then we will be able to proclaim that “all men are created equal.”

While the exhibit ended in 1981, it would continue in 6 made-for-TV-movies from 1982-1997, spirited from the characters from the forties and into the sixties. In these TV movies, Richard Thomas returns as John-Boy and Michael Learned is benefit as Olivia, while Ellen Corby makes a few appearances as Grandma. Hopefully, Warner Brothers will release these 6 TV movies, as it would be vast to fill the entire Walton legacy on DVD.
Season Nine will probably be most fans least celebrated, but being that I missed most of these episodes on CBS when they first ran, it made me relish the later seasons even more when I watched the re-runs.
If you are apt fan of the series, you will composed like season Nine. There are many modern characters, but the writing is unruffled gracious.

The salvation of a tainted education system may be the Internet, the DVD and the interactive CD-ROM. Thos plot of DVDs on the first World War is a case in point. As a teacher of history I know that if one is to content a student, a obvious amount of entertainment must go with the facts. This space meets both criteria.

This may not be the ultimate, in-depth space of DVDs on the subject, but it is a helpful launch. It should be viewed by students and then discussed. The disks assign this war in perspective with other events in Europe at the time of the war and in the decades leading up to it. After all, the war did not advance out of the blue one day in Sarajevo.
But this is also for the adult student with even a modest interest in history.

I picked up my copy from a jobber rack at a local supermarket. Given the brand I wasn’t expecting worthy but opinion may would be worth a gamble compared to the Hollywood dreck in the neighboring bin.
The well considered script, along with the titanic period film footage and inclusion of interviews - culled from an older program - kept my interest and left me ready each following program.
The narration, is far from memorable, though seemingly competent in execution, keep the pronunciation problems as pointed out in another review.
I do concur with Mr. Graham in his review on the utilize of music in the soundtrack which will alter randomly between asynchronous an annoying. Even the music selection for the extinguish credits seems flippant given the subject matter.
For general consumption though these problems can likely be overlooked. This was a gracious danger by the producers.

Stream Patton Movie Online
“Patton” offers one of the gigantic marriages of actor and role with George C. Scott’s riveting portrayal of the illustrious American tank commander. As a film biography “Patton” forgoes the rise of the famed general and merely hints at his ironic death because of injuries suffered in a traffic accident, focuses entirely on his military career commanding troops in North Africa, Sicily and France during World War II. The strength of the script by Francis Ford Coppola and Edmund H. North, as well as of Scott’s performance, is that the paradoxes of Patton are completely embraced. Not even Patton’s proper cadre of staff officers can hold him from shooting off his mouth every time there are reporters around, but then neither German Field Marshall Rommel or English Field Marshall Montgomery can beat him on the battlefield. Karl Malden’s performance as General Omar Bradley is honest as solid as Scott’s, presenting a man whose personality is the complete antithesis of Patton. Viewers rep themselves identifying with the German captain who is the intelligence expert on Patton and arguably the only person in the film who really understands or respects the American general. But the more I discover “Patton,” the more I am very impressed with the battle sequences of director Franklin J. Schaffner (”Planet of the Apes,” “Pappillon”), which were staged live and full-scale without special effects of miniatures. Schaffner provides not unprejudiced the mountainous spectacle of a desert tank battle, but smaller and equally memorable moments, such as a soldier falling tiring, in the snow. “Patton” deserved its Oscars.
In terms of extra features on this DVD, the second disc features the 1997 50-minute retrospective documentary, “The Making of Patton: A Tribute to Franklin J. Schaffner.” Unusual interviews with the cinematographer, composer, etc., are blended with audio interviews of Schaffner and Scott from 1970, newsreel footage of Patton, along with clips and publicity stills from the film perform a fitting tribute to the unhurried director. The audio commentary on the first disc is really more of a lecture on Patton by Charles M. Province, the author of the book “The Unknown Patton” and founder/president of the General George S. Patton, Jr. Historical Society. Province more than adequately fills in what the movie leaves out about Patton’s life. On the second disc Jerry Goldsmith’s Oscar nominated musical find is presented in stereo, including alternate takes and a series of radio spots. You certainly have to indulge in what Fox has keep together here: This is a “Special Edition” DVD priced as a regular DVD, a actual treat for those of us who remember being mesmerized by George C. Scott giving that profanity laced opening speech standing in front of that giant American flag.
The Fox “Cinema Classic Collection” edition of PATTON offers a far splendid represent transfer than the previous THX edition. The recent image looks to be from exact 65mm elements and is far less grainy than the weak transfer, which looks to have been from 35mm dupes. However, sometimes colors are a tiny unstable in unusual image, with often pinkish hues and reddish flesh tones, but most of the time the represent looks attractive. The soundtrack seems the same as the ragged edition, which was objective delicate. All of the extras from the previous edition have been retained, and the current commentary by screenwriter Francis Ford Coppola is enthralling.

This is an provocative episode in the Godzilla saga. Once again TOHO has re-written Godzilla’s past. In this narrative, Substantial G has not been seen since 1954, but everyone has a funky feeling he’ll return one day. And he does. But this time, there are three Guardian Monsters- Baragon, Ghidorah, and Mothra- to end him.
This is a very mystical film that may be hard to fathom by American audiences. For example, Godzilla is powered by the souls of those who lost their lives in the Pacific War. So he is now a force of vengence, and not a “force of nature” as stressed in previous movies. Dreadful guy Ghidorah is now a apt guy. Baragon is a lame monster. TOHO won’t learn- 4 legged monsters unbiased don’t work (it’s sure the man inside is walking around on all fours) .
One thing that really sets this apart is that Godzilla is seen killing people. Folks salvage trampled, burned, and buried under rubble and earth by Tremendous G. This Zilla has a abominable attitude.

The opening credit sequence sets the tone nicely giving conclude up shots of the monster’s skin as if displaying their battle armor. The first battle between Godzilla and Baragon is a gigantic kaiju battle! Godzilla literally knocks through a hillside to battle Baragon killing the people below! Speed and veil because he means business! Its fair very well filmed and choreographed and the musical win does the film justice. Fabulous stuff!

Stream The Orloff Collection Online
With the exception of English works, European fear tends to have more of a cult following in the U.S. than a celebrated one. Certainly, European scare has a lot to offer, including some of the early German films such as Nosferatu. Later, such names as Dario Argento and Mario Bava would note terror films that were distinctly different from American works. But, objective as there are plenty of lesser American panic films, there are plenty of lesser European ones, and the prolific director Jess Franco has created his part of those.
Buy,Download, Or Stream The Orloff Collection! Click Here
The Orloff Collection presents a dwelling of four movies, three of which were directed by Franco. The name itself is a misnomer: the villainous Dr. Orloff only appears in two of the four; in one other, he is referred to, and the fourth objective uses clips from an Orloff movie. They are of varying quality, but generally net worse as they go along.
The first in the status is The Terrible Dr. Orlof (only one “f” in his debut), a film that was originally double-billed with the similarly named (but more well-respected) The Unfavorable Dr. Hichcock. Orlof (played by Howard Vernon) is your standard enraged scientist out to kidnap women to consume their parts to restore his ill sister. He has a freakish henchman, a murderous blind man who acts as Orlof’s slave. This is probably the best in the space, and even this one is only three star material.
Buy,Download, Or Stream The Orloff Collection! Click Here
Orloff (or Orlof) is nowhere to be seen in Dr. Orloff’s Monster, in which the furious scientist is this time named Dr. Fisherman. Fisherman has re-animated his expressionless brother to help as a unkillable monster who will assassinate Fisherman’s enemies. Occasionally, there will be some women killed too. The appearance of Fisherman’s niece will throw some wrenches into the monkey works.
In Orloff and the Invisible Man, Orloff has returned, this time with an invisible killer as his slave and some vague plans of creating a orderly speed of invisible monsters. A doctor - summoned by Orloff’s daughter - learns of the spot and tries to derail it. Like the other movies, this one has minimal special effects, bland acting (even taking the dubbing into sage), and cheesy make-up jobs. This is usually made up for with gratuitous nudity, and this one has it in spades. (This one, by the method, was actually directed by Pierre Chevalier.)
Finally, Revenge in the House of Usher illustrates that the worst thing a film (in any genre) can be is not poorly written, acted or directed, but simply uninteresting. This retelling of Poe’s classic tale is far better in the Roger Corman version starring Vincent Tag. Here, it is muddled and a thudding bore. And there is no Orloff: instead, Vernon plays Usher, though clips are obsolete from The Dreadful Dr. Orloff for flashback material.
I’m obvious Franco has his devotees, but from this place, it’s hard to understand why (I’ve also seen a couple of his Fu Manchu movies and his version of Dracula, and none of them are very superior either) . These films don’t even fit into the category so-bad-they’re respectable, and with a minimum of extras, I have to give the spot as a whole two stars. Even for panic fans, this one doesn’t offer grand more that the routine and the dreary.
I came here for The Awfull Doctor Orloff only and I got a collection of four Jess Franco’s mind twisters. Cause it’s the only map to descibe Jess Franco’s work. Very often kindly, sometimes fair peculiar, always left you changed in some map. Thank you mr. Franco.

I knew I’d like this - I have Lara’s 2 other videos and I like her style. She cues well and has a nice, unexcited demeanor. Speedily Results is different from her other pilates video. In this there are pilates classics with a twist. In the arms allotment you’ll do saw with weights in both hands. I really felt that all over. The bun/thighs piece has floor exercises: frog, bridge and side lying leg lifts with lots of leg variations. The abs fraction was very effective. Again, leg variations construct you really feel it in your lower abs. The total body allotment was tough and I also felt like the stretch was a workout! If you like variety over endless reps you’ll like this workout. It’s not the same feeble pilates moves. Lara doesn’t exhibit many modifications; but I don’t assume this was meant for beginners. It’s a fluid workout and I was challenged by each 10 tiny portion.
This workout DVD is fabulous- I esteem how its broken down into 10 exiguous segments so that you can customize it depending on your time constraints a/o fitness needs, or can do the whole thing for one terrific workout!

What makes this DVD better than some of the other pilates DVD’s on the market is: (1) very splendid breathing and technique cues (SO significant) ; (2) instruction while doing the moves as opposed to wasting time explaining what you’re going to be doing (so that you’re actually arresting for all 10 minutes of each segment) ; (3) really rigorous segments- you’ll work up a sweat in impartial ten minutes no matter which one(s) you do; (4) short reps which really focus in on technique and doing the moves the proper scheme to come results; (5) some novel and intelligent moves- not merely the same feeble ones you explore on every other DVD out there; (6) NO excuses allowed- everyone can procure honest 10 extra minutes at the very least to squeeze in a stout workout; and (7) something for everyone- whether you’re looking to tone your core, arms, hips, butt or legs, you’ll secure a colossal workout.

If you’re fresh to pilates, you may want to contemplate it first before attempting to follow it to create it easier, as the moves a/o techniques may be modern to you.
My only gripe is that she recommends doing exercises- particualrly in the “core” segment- with a rounded attend and not in neutral pelvis status (which I’ve been taught is the suitable pilates station) . Apart from that one complaint, its an awesome workout and you’ll feel it the next day whether you do one segment or all of them!

Watch No Way to Treat a Lady Movie Online
No one could ever accuse the indomitable Rod Steiger of being monotonous. His flamboyant portrayals are perhaps borne out of his right life highly strung, emotional region, where his characterizations are often conventional as a release valve (acquire his Napoleon in Waterloo, made shortly after his separation after ten years from Claire Bloom) . Here too his performance is galvanized through his emotions into an unforgettable roller coaster go you’ll objective want to show over and over. He plays a middle veteran theater owner, who through a warped obsession with his mother, turns to killing women in the locality of a similar age. His theatrical background means he has access to a veritable Aladdin’s cave of disguises, a different one for each kill. Here Mr. Steiger excels himself, it is all graceful scandalous really, but done with such comedic brilliance and delight in as to become compulsive viewing. Lee Remick, looking utterly delicate and glowing (and graceful self assured for a 1967 movie, a slight ahead of it’s time despite the fact she ultimately becomes an intended victim) is a gawk saught after by George Segal’s detective on the case Mo Brummel. The bi-play between these two characters is also pleasurable, as they become romantically linked, and as an extra bonus, Eileen Heckart is hysterical as George’s henpecking Jewish mother. This is Steiger’s film though, he is unbiased awesome in every scene, in disguise or out, especially as the joyful wig seller, and in his fixated post-murder phone calls to Segal’s detective, where he tries to do a relationship of sorts, mighty to Segal’s chagrin! A masterful performance in a wholly piquant and extremely gloomy comedy: exquisite!
Nowadays, when it seems that a successful film has to be either a colossal holiday or summer special-effects blockbuster, or a cheap independent circuit success, it makes one long for the days when friendly films with wonderful stories were made for modest budgets and provided a decent part of entertainment without overloading the senses. This dying breed of the movies is smooth around, however, and although often under appreciated, should be sought out. One case in point is No Contrivance to Treat a Lady, a murky comedy that combines a crime drama with the often comic relationships men have with their mothers.
In spite of the film being a thriller, we know from the beginning who the dreadful guy is. It’s Rod Steiger, who gets to really stretch and ham it up as a theater manager/serial killer who murders each of his victims in some uncommon disguise to rep their trust. George Segal is the cop who must crack the case and, at the same time, fend off his wonderfully annoying mother, Eileen Heckart (whose running gag line, “Who ever heard of a Jewish cop? ” gets repeated over and over again throughout) . Steiger’s character is one of those vain killers who checks the newspaper for reports of his exploits and who takes to calling Segal when the facts are reported improper or when he wants to taunt the authorities. Segal is rather bland, although it’s not really his fault since the role doesn’t give him powerful to do other than to react to the other characters, particularly his mother, Steiger, and Lee Remick, as his savor interest and would-be victim of the murderer. Steiger goes arrangement, method over the top, but it works because the film has region him up to be not only flamboyant, but overreactive to mother issues of his occupy. His various disguises accumulate odder and odder as the film moves along, and when it shifts from comedy into resolution of the crime mode, his character becomes that noteworthy more menacing, not because he’s silly but because we learn, as Segal puts the pieces together, that he is honestly and truly deranged.
Remick serves as the breath of novel air, only because her character is the only one who isn’t dealing with some sort of emotional crisis. The scene where she meets and charms Heckart is an overlooked comedic gem.
